Meet Graeme Truslove, our new Facilities Manager
Our newest team member, Graeme Truslove, is already making an impact by ensuring everything at Norton Park continues to run like clockwork.
Graeme took up the reins as Facilities Manager earlier this month, quickly setting about the essential behind-the-scenes work that keeps our site safe, secure and welcoming for tenants, visitors and staff.
Having recently returned to Scotland after several years in the US building luxury treehouses, Graeme joined Norton Park in search of “a place to belong” – a place where his varied career experience could serve a greater purpose.
That career path has been anything but typical. Over the years, Graeme has worked as a bank manager with Santander, Head of Transport H&S for the London Olympics, and as a consultant with UK Power Reserve – not to mention stints living and working abroad.
Now back in his hometown of Edinburgh, Graeme is looking to put down roots while giving back to the community, using his hands-on experience and operational know-how to support the diverse charities based at Norton Park.
His broad background, particularly his understanding of compliance and health and safety, means he’s ideally placed to support our team and tenants with everything from building management to emergency preparedness.
At the heart of Graeme’s role is the day-to-day operation of the Norton Park estate – a campus-style site that requires round-the-clock oversight. From coordinating repairs and maintenance to ensuring compliance and access, he’s already proved himself a proactive and responsive member of the team.
Graeme brings a methodical, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving, a skill honed during his time in fast-paced managerial and consultancy roles. But equally important is his natural ability to connect with people.
He’s keen to make himself visible and approachable. Graeme says his first goal is to ensure people know they can reach out to him – whether they are part of his team, one of the tenants, or even clients visiting the site.
With a calm demeanour and a strong belief in getting stuck in, Graeme has already demonstrated his willingness to roll up his sleeves and get involved – even if that means a ladder, toolbox or late night.
He’s also passionate about supporting charities to thrive, recognising that a well-maintained and functional building is a crucial foundation for the work they do.
The team at Norton Park are excited to have him on board, and with Graeme already making such a strong impression, it’s clear he will be a driving force behind future improvements to the site and services.
FAQ with Graeme
We caught up with Norton Park’s newest team member, Graeme Truslove, to hear more about his fascinating background, what drew him to the role, and what he hopes to bring to the team.
Q: What brought you to Norton Park?
A: I was looking for a place to belong. After returning to Edinburgh, I knew I didn’t want just any job – I wanted to be part of something that meant something. Norton Park struck me as a unique place where I could put my experience to good use, while also giving something back.
Q: Your career path has been anything but traditional – can you tell us more about your background?
A: I’ve had quite a varied career. I was away from Edinburgh for 40 years – working in London and the US, mainly. I’ve opened retail sites around the world for Virgin and Borders Books & Music, served as Head of Transport Health & Safety for the London Olympics, worked in banking as a Santander & Metro Bank branch manager, and most recently managed operations for a company in the US that built luxury treehouses. I’ve always enjoyed projects that involve complex problem-solving – no matter the setting.
Q: That’s quite a range! How do those experiences help in this role?
A: Facilities management touches everything – it’s a great way to understand how a business works. My previous roles taught me how to handle health and safety, manage people, oversee projects, and adapt quickly. Whether you’re coordinating a treehouse build or managing a building like Norton Park, the principles are the same – planning, execution, and people. I like to think I’m someone who can be relied on to get things done.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you here?
A: It’s still early days, but I can already see the variety in the role. It’s more customer-facing than most people might expect. From the moment I walk in, I’m engaging with tenants, visitors, and even their clients. One day I might be resolving a temperature issue; the next I could be helping move furniture or fixing a phone. It’s hands-on and people-focused – which I love.
Q: What are your goals for the first few months?
A: First and foremost, I want to be visible and approachable – whether that’s to my team, the tenants, or their clients. Longer term, I’d like to help the organisation better quantify the value we add – not just the big things, but the small, everyday tasks that make a real difference for tenants and often go unrecorded.
