We would like to welcome Neil Stevenson who will be our new chair of the board of trustees.
Neil is currently chief executive of the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission and is the Senior Independent Director of the Advertising Standard Authority (as well as chairing their Audit and Risk Committee).
He has a longstanding involvement in the charity sector. This started as a trustee of the English Speaking Union (Scotland), a charity he had benefitted from when at School. He went on to be a trustee for LawCare, a charity which supports addiction, mental health and wellbeing issues for lawyers and judges across the UK. Most recently he was chair of Changing the Chemistry (CtC), a charity seeking to improve the performance of boards in the commercial, public and third sectors by increasing diversity of through on those Boards. He continues to do volunteer work for CtC.
Having lived along the road from Norton Park for almost 20 years Neil was enthused at the chance to support a charity in his local community, as well as by Norton Park’s work to minimise central overheads for charities (in a context where charities face the challenge of much funding being attached to projects and initiatives).
His previous background combines significant experience of regulation and complaints, and of the Scottish legal services market. He was appointed by the Privy Council to sit on the General Dental Council, the regulatory and complaints body for dental professionals in the UK and he served two terms on the Board (demitting in September 2017) as well as chairing the Remuneration Committee.
Between 2004 and 2015 Neil worked with the Law Society of Scotland, latterly as their Director of Representation and Professional Support. He has previously held a number of other Executive and Non-Executive Director roles in organisations spanning the legal sector, healthcare, consultancy, and oil and gas.
He holds a Law degree from Edinburgh University, and a Masters in Quality Management from Birmingham University.
